Samuel Joseph Speziale Jr.
Better Known as: “Sam”
Sunrise: February 11th 1944 – Sunset: January 23rd 2022
Samuel J. Speziale Jr. of Lago Heights, San Nicolas, Aruba died late Sunday night, January 23, 2022 with his family and loving canine companion, Sasha, by his side. He was born February 11th, 1944 in Manhattan, New York to the late Samuel Joseph Speziale and Elanore Anderson Speziale. Sam moved with his family to Aruba as a child and graduated from Lago Heights High School in 1961. Sam moved to NYC and worked for ESSO and eventually moved to Alaska where he was dedicated to working on the Alaskan Pipeline. Sam later moved to Miami and was employed by Dade County where he retired.
Sam eventually made his way full time back to his favorite place, Aruba. Sam remained in his family’s neighborhood of San Nicolas where he enjoyed his time with his childhood friends, as well as the many friends he made along the way. Sam had a morning routine of meeting dear friends for breakfast at Cafe The Plaza and later in the day could often be found at his best friend, Charles Brouns’, establishment, the famous Charlie’s Bar, where many good times were had.
Sam would be telling stories of the island to tourists while wearing his Charlie’s bar t-shirt. Sam took great pride in overseeing the maintenance of the famous anchor his friend, Charles Brouns, had placed in recognition of all seamen who lost their lives at sea as well as to Sero Colorado and the entire San Nicholas community. Sam was passionate about the preservation of San Nicholas and Aruba as a whole. Sam was an avid reader being accused of reading every book in the local library. He also enjoyed big game hunting and fishing wherever he lived.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Joseph Speziale and Elanore Anderson Speziale and sister, Sandra Speziale. Sam is survived by his former wife, Christine, two sons, Samuel Joseph III and Michael Christopher.
Several grandchildren, Ryan, Marina, Michael Jr, Arianna, Jasmine and Samuel Joseph IV. Sam is also survived by his sister, Sonja Galofaro, nephew Nicholas L. Galofaro (Lenore C. Jakiela), niece Anna M. Galofaro, niece/goddaughter Katrina M. (Josh) Johnson and great niece Sienna M. Galofaro.
